Clogged ear is a common problem which each of you might have experienced some day. While clogged ears usually do not lead to pain, they might make you feel very uncomfortable. The most common cause is earwax build up. This problem can be caused due to various other reason like sinus infection, cold, cough, bacteria infection, air pressure changes during plane take off and landing. Also, water might enter your ears while you take a bath or swim, causing this issue. Your ear can become a serious problem in rare cases but most of the time, you can easily do clogged ear treatment at home.

Treatment Options for Fast Relief
  1. One of the most common treatment is done by using hydrogen peroxide. You can take hydrogen peroxide and put a few drops of it in your ear using a dropper. Lie in a way that the ear is upwards. Wait for a few minutes till you feel a frizzle. Now, sit upright and holding the napkin below your ear, lean over. The wax will drain along with the hydrogen peroxide.
  2. Another remedy is using hydrogen peroxide and boiled water. Let the boiled water cool until it is lukewarm. Take equal amount of this water and hydrogen peroxide and put it in the ear. Leave it for about 15-20 minutes. You might experience a tingling sensation, due to the solution but do not scratch the ear. Further, sit upright and hold a napkin while the wax drains along with this solution giving relief.
  3. Next treatment is using white vinegar, mineral oil and hydrogen peroxide as an effective ear drop. This will help soften the earwax which you can drain after 20 minutes.
  4. Chewing gum is known to be an effective treatment. This is especially recommended if the cause is air pressure changes while traveling in an airplane. Chewing gum will help in ear pressure relief. You can always have them during the journey to avoid this problem. Yawing several times is another option for clogging caused due air pressure.
  5. Lie down by keeping the ear upwards. Put a few drops of warm olive oil in the affected ear and leave it for 10-15 minutes. This will help soften the earwax. You can also use a few drops of glycerin.
While the ears can be really irritating, you can take a few precautions to prevent them. Never blow your nose too hard. While blowing nose, block a nostril with your finger and blow only one at a time. Use earplugs while swimming. Removing earwax regularly is useful. Do not use safety pins, hairpins or other such objects to clean the wax. Do not insert a cotton bud much inside, this will push the wax even more inside your ear. The aforementioned treatments will help you get rid of the problem. If there is a foreign object leading to ear obstruction, you must consult the doctor. Also, if there is heavy earwax build up, it is best to visit a doctor who can remove it using the right earwax removal tools, in the best and safest way. If you are experiencing ear pain along with this problem, you must consult a doctor for the right treatment.
