A Little About Statue of Liberty

An interesting of the Statue of Liberty fact is that different parts of the Statue of Liberty were designed by different engineers. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi sculpted the statue and also obtained a U.S. patent for the structure used. The internal structure on the other hand was designed by Maurice Koechlin, who was chief engineer of Gustave Eiffel's engineering company, and also the designer of the Eiffel Tower. The pedestal on which the Statue stands by was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt. The choice of copper used for the construction of the Statue was chosen by Eugene Viollet-le-Duc. He was also responsible for the adoption of the repousse technique, where a malleable metal is hammered on the reverse side. The Statue is made of a sheathing of pure copper, and is hung on a framework of steel. The only exception is the flame of the torch, which is coated in gold leaf. The statue stands atop of rectangular stonework pedestal with a foundation in the shape of an irregular eleven pointed star.
