However, before attempting to treat yourself or your partner with any of these stop snoring aids, get yourself or your spouse checked for a condition named sleep apnea.

Over the Counter Snoring Aids that Work

Snoring not only refers to loud noise made by a person while asleep but deep down, it may be an indication of something serious. Snoring is of two types, primary, which only refers to loud, funny noises made by a person during sleep. Second type, namely obstructive sleep apnea is far too dangerous with bouts of breathlessness during sleep. The respiratory passages of a person are so severely blocked that he may not breathe at all for 10 to 30 seconds. Needless to say, this sleep disorder may prove to be life threatening for the person. If it goes undetected for long, it may lead to heart arrhythmia, pulmonary dysfunction, etc. On the other hand, if your snoring is a result of blockage due to falling of tongue in your throat, then you can opt for any of the snoring cures available in the market. However, a proper diagnosis is a must before you go for any of the anti snoring aids.

Nasal Sprays
Nasal sprays may provide temporary relief for people who snore due to blockage in nasal passages due to increased mucus. These products claim to moisten the throat and soften the tissues. However, these products often prove to be least effective, since neither of the above is the cause of snoring. On the contrary, prolonged use of nasal sprays may make you addicted to them and cause dangerous conditions like perforation of nasal septum, drying of mucus membranes, etc.

Nasal Strips
Nasal strips are to be attached above the nose bridge. They aim at dilating the nasal passages. This may bring some relief to primary snorers. Nasal strips can be worn only once and need to be changed daily. They are unmedicated, hence safe for use. However, they may come off during sleep and may cause skin irritation in people with sensitive skin.

Ergonomic Pillows
Specially designed ergonomic pillows can provide great comfort against snoring. These pillows adjust the alignment of your head, neck and shoulder, so that your tongue does not fall back into your throat and cause blockage which leads to snoring.

Throat Sprays
Throat sprays contain some natural snoring remedies which keep the throat moist and reduce congestion due to mucus. These sprays are not addictive unlike nasal sprays. Besides, natural snoring remedies make them safer to use.

Dental Devices
Dental devices such as stop snoring mouthpiece or anti snoring mouthpiece aim at maintaining proper position of tongue and soft palate, so that they do not collapse and cause blockage, which eventually leads to snoring. Dental devices are made of plastic and are very convenient to use.

You may go through these reviews to find out which snoring aids are likely to work best for you. In any case, do not hesitate to consult a doctor if you experience snoring for too long.
