What Causes Stomach Ache?
There are a few cases wherein, the stomach pain remains localized. This is because, doctors have found that, in some people, the pain is caused by some other problem in another area of the body. This is known as referred pain.
Speaking of medical conditions that commonly trigger pain in the stomach area, they might include Crohn's disease, intestinal obstruction, irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, sickle cell anemia, ulcerative colitis, urinary tract infection, stomach flu or diverticulitis.
A burning stomach ache may be caused by lead poisoning, uremia, bladder inflammation, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), gallstones, hiatal hernia (defined as a condition wherein the hernia results from the protrusion of part of the stomach through the diaphragm), Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), and kidney infection. These conditions are also the common causes of stomach pain after eating.
Talking about stomach pain during pregnancy, most cases could be due to what is known as ectopic pregnancy. It is defined as a pregnancy, where the gestation occurs somewhere else instead of the uterus. The pain could also be one of the stomach ulcer symptoms. How To Manage the Pain
It is important to know that a persistent stomach ache warrants a medical visit. You never know what could be the underlying disorder that is causing it. However, using the following home remedies may offer some relief, until medical help arises.
- Use warm compress on the area where the pain is felt to be originating from. Keep the water warm in case of kids.
- You can also dip a washcloth in warm water, squeeze out the excess water and place it on the aching area.
- Make a tea of cumin seeds. Drink it whenever you feel that the pain is getting worse. You can also add honey to improve the taste.
- Eating yogurt helps in reducing stomach ache. You can blend in some fruits like mangoes, bananas, etc., to improve the taste.
- Drinking green tea has been an old remedy to reduce stomach pain. So whenever you feel the pain, sip in some green tea to get immediate relief.
- Fenugreek seeds also provide a great deal of help in soothing the stomach. Simply soak some seeds in water and chew them several times a day.
