Alcohol by Volume Content
You must have come across 'alcohol content' in percentage printed on a beer bottle. This is basically the percentage of alcohol that the brand of beer contains. Alcohol-by-volume (abbreviated as ABV) is a standard measure which is used to express the alcohol content of a particular alcoholic drink. While low-alcohol beer has approximately 0.0-1.2 percent alcohol-by-volume, the same in neutral grained spirit and rectified spirit exceeds 90 percent with ease. It is the alcohol-by-volume content which determines how strong the alcoholic beverage is.
World's Strongest Beer - BrewDog The End of History
In case of beer, a hygrometer is used to check the specific gravity before and after the process of fermentation, and the difference between the two is used to determine the volume of alcohol in the solution. While the average alcohol content of beer ranges between 4-6 percent, the same in the range of 2-12 percent is not very rare. But what if it is around 55 percent? Yes, that is exactly the alcohol-by-volume content of 'The End of History', marketed by the Scottish brewery - BrewDog.
While the whole world is after the best beer in the world, or the best tasting beer for that matter, some people take a step ahead and go for the strongest beer available. As of today, the distinction of being the strongest goes to The End of History which boasts of 55 percent ABV content. An ale type of beer, The End of History was launched by BrewDog - a Scottish brewery known for making strong beer, in July 2010. In fact, before The End of History, BrewDog had already launched the Tactical Nuclear Penguin (32 percent ABV) and Sink The Bismarck (41 percent ABV) beer - both of which reigned the top spot for a brief period. In terms of beer brewing, this beer is subjected to the process of freeze distillation.
According to BrewDog, this limited edition beer was a tribute to the famous book 'The End of History and the Last Man' authored by American philosopher Francis Fukuyamas in 1992. Only 12 bottles of this limited edition beer were sold, all of which were packaged in the skin of small stuffed dead animals. Of the 12 bottles produced, 7 were stuffed in dead stoats, 4 in gray squirrels and 1 in the skin of a hare. All these bottles were sold within a short time, and shipped to their respective buyers in various parts of the world within a week of its launch. Other than being the strongest ever, The End of History - sold at US$700 per unit, is also one of the most expensive brands of beer. While the limited edition 'The End of History' was shipped to its buyers in different parts of the world, BrewDog did introduce the Tactical Nuclear Penguin and Sink The Bismarck beer in the United States - the latter was the strongest beer in the United States.

That being said, you'll be able to lay your hands on this beer only if you are willing to spend a fortune on the same.
