A Second Chance - Chapter 1

I frowned trying to recall how I remembered that voice, then it hit me. I spun around and looked down the boy who was about 50 feet away from me. The boy looked up at his mother with a little half-grin and took a step forward. I looked up at his mother who was giving him a disapproving look as he ran back to her and hugged her, it was Kate ....
I awoke to the sound of Nathan crying, I walked over to get him out of his crib and quickly made my way down the hall into the kitchen to get him a bottle. It's been over 6 months since I had him and being alone was hard. I had no family around to support me, and no father around to help. I closed my eye and my mind drifted back to when I found out I was pregnant.

Happy wasn't my first feeling I'll have to admit, I was more along the lines of terrified. His father is Jason, a big shot in a small town. His family was rich and owned a big business that spread into several towns, he was going to be the heir to the business. I worked for him as a manager in one of their stores. He came by every once in a while and when he did, I froze up and looked stupid in front of him.

One day I was outside the store and was crying over a recent breakup. He found me and just started talking to me and from there we became friends and hanging out a lot. One day we got in a big fight over me doing something, when he asked for the reason, I told him that it was 'cause I loved him. I spent that night at his house and he told me he too loved me.

We started dating and everything was great, his family actually liked me, or so I thought. Then one day, he started acting strange and leaving all the time. When I confronted him, he said that our relationship is over and he no longer wants to be with me. He found someone else, someone that his parents had introduced him to and wanted him to be with her, so I left heartbroken. Two weeks later, I found out that I was going to have a baby. I told my father the news and said I had to leave. I packed my bags and took my savings and went to another state 500 miles away.

I opened my eyes as a tear slipped down my cheek and looked down at my prince. He was my whole world now and as hard as it is, I wouldn't want it any other way. His big brown eyes was now looking at me as I fed him his bottle.

*One year later...*

"Nathan Alexander, come here." He looked back at me with a cheesy grin and took a step forward. I frowned and gave him a look; he ran up to me and hugged my leg. I bent down and picked him up.

"Please be a good boy for mommy, we are here to meet some of mommy's old friends. You know the ones who help us move into our new house, you'll like this place it's where your mommy grew up."

"Grew up, left missed us like crazy and came back, eh princess?" I turned around to see Chris and his wife Lindy; I walked up and gave Lindy a hug.
"Hey guys what took you so long?"
"Had to go drop the kids off at their Uncle's house." We sat down in a booth and we ordered our food and caught up on each other's life.

Jason's POV

I was sitting back in the chair at the restaurant with my family waiting of our food. I didn't want to be here, it was stupid. My family came banging on my door telling me, it's time to get over it and get out the house. Yes, 'cause every guy in the world can get over his wife leaving him for someone else. I sighed and closed my eyes.

"Nathan Alexander, come here," I frowned trying to recall how I remembered that voice, then it hit me. I spun around and looked down the boy who was about 50 feet away from me. The boy looked up at his mother with a little half-grin and took a step forward. Then I looked up at his mother who was giving him a disapproving look as he ran back to her and hugged her, it was Kate ....

I looked back at the little boy who had brown hair that was slightly curly, he was cute then he turned to look in my direction. He had big brown eyes and I froze, he looked so much like Kate, but he also looked a lot like me, but it's impossible … Isn't surely she would have told me? I turned around and saw my sister looked at me with a raised eyebrow then turned her eyes in the directions I was looking, she saw Kate and the boy. She turned back to look at me with a half-smile, I shook my head and our food arrived.

*Kate's POV*

"Hey Kate! It's been forever!" I looked up and saw Ali walking toward me, I gave her a smile and when she reached the table, she sat down next to me. Ali was Jason's sister, the only one in the family that actually liked me back then. We had gone to high school together and we were both 23. I gave her a hug.

"Mommy!"
"This is Ali," I gave him a smile as he looked at her.
"Hey cutie what's your name?"
"Nate."
"Awe that's such a cute name," Ali was looking at him with a big grin.
"Ali, it's time to leave now." It was Jason and I froze and just stared at my plate.
"Well, it's nice seeing you again, maybe we can hang out before you leave?"
"I actually moved back about a week ago."
"Oh well, I'll see you around then, maybe watch Nathan for you." She wrote down her number on a napkin and stood up to leave. "Bye Kate, Bye Nathan."
"Bye, bye!" Nathan yelled opening and closing his hand.
