A Third Chance at First Love - Chapter Twenty Five

The End - Part 1.
Chapter Twenty Five: The Post Cards From Hidden Valley

DECEMBER 3, 2015
(Amsterdam, Netherlands)

My Dearest Erin,

We've arrived in Amsterdam after yesterday's fiasco in England. I am unable to tell you what has happened, but I will do my best to keep close in contact. I am not hurt, but we've acquired some damage in our part.

He was able to escape, but not for long.

With You Always,
Derek

My Dearest Erin,

The Guardians have captured one of the Dean's biggest stockholders. It was the same man that Senator Dunkley has mentioned to you, so I must thank him. Your mother is as ruthless as ever, heading to the front lines before any of us can.

I've also learned to hold the gun. They've treated me well. I wish I could hear from you, but it's impossible right now. Soon.

With you Always,
Derek

My Dearest Erin,

Gary has come to visit today. He told me you were doing well, safe and secured and healthy and loved. I heard you've started to write again, under your new name. Christina Matthews sounds amazing, doesn't it? When I come back, I'll give you the best wedding imaginable. My love, we've acquired a lot more damage here. The attacks have not subsided, but I'll be lucky to have this letter sent to you, if anything else.

Although I can't do this in front of you, with your hand intertwined with mine, know that I'll always be there.

Will you marry me?

With You Always,
Derek

My Dearest Erin,

Things are not looking good here. Twenty people have died over the course of two days. I've been doing my best to keep them alive, but staying hidden has made things impossible to get the supplies we need. Gary has kept his word, providing as much information as well as supplies. We've surrounded Michael Dean in Barcelona, and the deals will start tonight. I don't feel good about this, but your mother has created such a flawless plan that it's making me feel confident.

I think we've got him.

With You Always,
Derek

My Dearest Derek,

I don't know if this letter would ever reach you, but Aris told me she'll do her best. I'm safe, very much so. Your brother has allowed me to live in one of the safe houses in Canada, where I've now been staying for a while.

I've been writing to pass the time, and soon I plan to publish it when things have calmed down.

I've been closely watching the news. For every man-made calamity I watch, I have the biggest hunch that you'd be there. It almost gives me the slightest bit of comfort, just knowing where you are.

I've started writing short stories, and have become quite fond of it. I've seen and done too much that writing through my imagination has allowed me to cope.

Sezky has informed Aris that you haven't been feeling well. Your injuries have not healed as fast as they should have, and your health has been deteriorating.

Derek, it must be hard to leave the battle now, but do so for your health.
However, if you've decided to pursue this until the end, do so.
I will not stop you.
I love you, and my answer is yes.

Erin

My Dearest Derek,

I hope you are alive. My thoughts and prayers are sent to you, wherever you are. The post cards have stopped, and even Aris has no idea where any of you are. Gary has been unreachable as of late, but he assured me that you guys would be safe. My mother, is she well? That woman, no matter how vile, would never pass up an opportunity to miss meeting her grandchild.

Derek, I'm pregnant.
Are you excited for the last chapter?
Yes!
No.
Meh.
