"Faith is like the wind, you can't see it but you can feel it" - Nicholas Sparks (A Walk to Remember)

Every human needs to believe in some power that has ultimate control, so that the evil is ultimately punished and the good is triumphant. But different people tend to put their faith and belief in different things. Some choose to believe in one God, heaven and hell; while others believe in a power superior to them which controls the universe and their deeds determine their fate. The debate of Atheism vs. Christianity is a never-ending one.

What is Christianity?
Christianity is a religion which is said to have existed for more than 2000 years now. It is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It is not only a religion but a set of beliefs, a way of life and has a strong community of believers. Christianity says that there is only one God and no one else before Him. And Jesus is the son of God, sent down to earth in the human form to save people from sin. He has given some laws and covenants which the believers have to abide by. The teachings of Jesus are actually a guide to the believers on how to lead a good life. God is the creator of the universe, in this sense he existed before the universe itself. Unlike humans who have a physical as well as spiritual existence, God exists in a sphere outside the physical universe, he is totally spiritual. There is also the mystery of the Holy Trinity, three Gods in one. The Holy Trinity comprises the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit which are different forms of God, that help and aid us humans. Then there are the seven sacraments, the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, the seven deadly sins and other beliefs of sin and evil. This religion also believes in eternal life after death.

What is Atheism?
Atheism is basically the doctrine that there is no God. The difference between Atheism and Christianity is that an atheist is a person who does not believe in the existence of God. He roots his beliefs in human potential to achieve good, of endurance and the human will, logical reasoning, values like love, truth and hard work. Atheists can be spiritual but they are not religious. They do not want to believe in an invisible God. They attribute both good and evil to human beings and their actions. A scientific method is what they say is the ultimate answer to all the truths of the world. They do not believe in following a particular religious belief or law laid down, instead they follow what they think is right to live a happy and peaceful life. Atheism is logical and looks for a reason in everything and every power governing the universe. Many people have assumed that it is another kind of religion in itself but that is just a myth.

The question of atheism vs. religion is also a debatable topic. In general, atheists do not believe in the existence of God or conforming to any religion. There are people who follow numerous religions all across the world. The primary concern here is the definition of 'God'. Religious believers or atheists have their own meaning of God. There are many religions, and whether you believe in it or not is completely your choice. Every individual is free to choose his own beliefs as long as it gives the strength to carry on a dutiful, selfless and satisfying life.

Atheism vs. Christianity can be a topic of different views and opinions. But ultimately, it is one's own experiences that makes us follow either of the two. It doesn't really matter what you choose to be. Because after all, being a good human being is what ultimately counts.
