Being Beautiful - Chapter Fourteen

Briana is a 16-year-old girl who hosts a web show. She doesn't know her life without it and she just gives great advice on how to love yourself and no one else. That picture over there is of Liam McArthur. I do not own that picture.
Chapter 14: Do I?

Friday came up really fast. I got up, stretched and then just sat in my bed with my legs crossed. It was Monday the 16th. It was the last day before we got out for Christmas break. I smiled just thinking about Christmas break. I couldn't wait to go to the Web-lee awards and hopefully win. I smiled as I leaned back down into the warmth of my bed. I would be going to the Web-lee awards with my family and Kaleb's family and Ian. My mother had already went over the schedule with Kaleb's mother and it wouldn't interfere with any of their Christmas plans and same with Ian.

My phone started vibrating. I reached to the left of it and answered it. "Hello."

"Did you forget that I was coming earlier?"

I sat up and looked at the phone. Ian. "Yeah," I said pulling the covers off of me. "I just. I don't know why I forgot."

"You don't have to dress up. Just half a day."

"Still," I said racing to my dresser. "I should have known. How much time do I have."

"Half an hour give or take."

"I'll be ready." I pressed end and threw my phone on the floor. I reached in my dresser and pulled out a cute shirt and then went to my closet to pick out some jeans. As I walked back over to the window, I noticed Kaleb watching me with a half-smile on his face.

I walked over to the window, pulled the curtains back some and opened the window. He did the same. "Thanks for laughing at my lateness."

"Oh, I'm not laughing at your lateness, I'm just smiling at how cute you are." I rolled my eyes as he smiled brighter. "Are you excited about our trip?"

"Well, if you didn't want us to go, you didn't have to invite us."

"Well, I kind of wanted you there for my victory win."

"If you win."

"Well, you have to think positively about these things."

He laughed. "Well, I have to get dressed and so do you by the lack of shine in your hair."

I squenched my eyes and closed the window. I stood and walked into the bathroom. I had to start my day.

As I finished getting ready, I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. I was so different than I was at the beginning of high school. Bigger boobs, longer hair and more confidence. I smiled as I pulled my book bag over my head. I'm proud of myself.

I skipped lightly down the stairs and was met by an argument.

"He shouldn't be allowed to come," I heard Liam say. I poked my head in the kitchen where no one could see my presence. Liam, Lucas, Ian, Liz and my father were there. "He doesn't deserve her."

"Are you kidding me!" Ian screamed. "I was there for her when you weren't. You don't sound like much of a brother to me."

"Hey you guys," Liz said. "This isn't about your differences-"

"Oh isn't it," Liam said. "Briana compared me to him last night. Do you think I'd ever hurt my sister the way that you did."

"Well, you did last night grilling her for no apparent reason," Ian said. "You know her condition; you know how fragile she is."

"Yeah, and don't you? You had her stuck in her room crying for your ass for days! What the hell kind of friend are you?" He looked back at my dad. "Convince Briana that Lucas should have that ticket."

"You can't just convince her," Liz said. "You need to stop grilling Ian. He's been her best friend for years. Just cause you don't like him, doesn't mean we don't. We love Ian."

"Liz, but you know I'm right. He doesn't belong."

"YOU DON'T BELONG," Ian screamed. "You've never liked anything about the way Briana acts. You shouldn't be able to go."

Before Liam retaliated, I stepped into the kitchen. Everyone's head swiveled into my direction. "Briana," Liam said.

"I just came to get my laptop. I'll ask Alexander for a ride since I'm such a big deal."

"Briana," Liz said. "That's not what it is." I ignored all of their pleading.

I reached behind my father, grabbed my laptop, stuck it in my bag and then walked out of the kitchen.

"Briana!" I heard Ian scream. I sighed and slammed the door shut. I looked to my right and Kaleb and Alexander were just coming out.

"ALEXANDER!" I screamed. He looked over in my direction and smiled.

"Hey." We both met halfway between our yards. "What's going on? I heard yelling."

"About that," I said. "I was wondering if I could get a ride... Just for today?"

"Of course. You shouldn't have to ask."

I smiled as we walked toward his car which Kaleb was leaning casually against. I stuffed my laptop into my bag and looked up.

"Hey there," Kaleb said as we approached. "Are we your chauffeurs today?"

I smiled. "If that's what you want to call yourself." We rode to school with the sound of the radio coolly playing in the background. As we got to school, Alexander got out fast cause he was late for his Key Club meeting. I got out of the car and shut the door lightly. "Thanks," I said turning to Kaleb. "For taking me to school. It's just that Ian and Liam and practically my whole family were arguing over stupid nonsense."

"No problem," was all he said. I looked at him wanting to say something, but I had no idea what to say. It was like his whole mood had shifted and he didn't want to be around me. Not knowing what to say, I looked forward.

"Well, I guess I'll let you get to practice." I started forward until his voice startled me.

"Just admit it." I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "You like me."

I smiled. "Oh, get over yourself. I don't like you. You like me."

"Please Briana," he said walking toward me. "I kissed you twice and you didn't say anything about not wanting it to happen again."

"I was startled."

"No. You wanted it to happen."

"You're out of your mind."

He approached me. "So if I were to kiss you, what would you do?"

"Probably punch you."

"Really?" He looked at me and laughed. "You're so cute." He started walking off. I walked after him not saying anything. Then he turned around abruptly and kissed me long and hard. My muscles felt like they were locked into place. I couldn't move as his mouth engulfed mine. His kiss was soft but powerful, genuine but had a little edge to it. When he pulled away he just stared. "So where's that punch?"

When the bell rang for school to be over, I found myself walking toward the gym by myself. Half a day meant that fourth period was the last class that we would go to and Alexander and I had that class, but he never liked staying after school. His mother came and picked him up. Ever since he had told me about his past, I seem to be seeing him differently than I imagined. Everything that he does stands out to me in his own unique way and I think that he noticed it too. He knows how amazing I perceive him which is why we like being around each other so much.

I entered the gym, and I lost my balance when all the guys and cheerleaders screamed "CONGRATULATIONS" in my ear. I smiled and looked around as everyone started clapping and confetti came from out of nowhere.

The coach approached me and hugged me. "Congratulations on your nomination Web-lee girl." I smiled and hugged him back.

"How did you know?"

He looked at me. "Your brother and Lucas and Ian and Kaleb. You have a whole fan club on my team young lady."

I smiled. "Thanks coach."

"Don't thank me just yet."

When he walked away, I was engulfed into like this group hug by a bunch of jocks. It was a tight, skin stretching hug, but it was of warmth. "Congratulations!!!" They kept screaming in my ear.

Once I was finally on earth's surface, Lucas met me. "Thanks for letting me come princess." Before I could speak, he filled me in. "I got my own ticket thank you very much. I couldn't miss you winning this award." As much as I hated Lucas, I loved him just the same. He hugged me and then Liam did.

When we separated, he looked at me. "I know you're mad at me, but don't think I'm happy with you." I looked down. "But I'm sorry. I shouldn't tell you what you should and shouldn't do with your life. You have to make your own steps and create your own path." I smiled and hugged him again.

"I'm sorry too. I just love Ian so much. You need to learn to at least tell him."

"Who do you think helped me do this whole thing?" I raised an eyebrow and looked at him.

"You let him?"

"I owed him. I was a dick to him this morning." He smiled. "And he isn't so bad."

I smiled as I took my book bag off. "Where is he?"

"He's right here." I turned and saw Ian before he smothered me into a gigantic hug. I smiled and hugged him tighter as he kissed my neck. "Don't we just do the greatest of planning?"

"Well," I said. "I guess you do."

"Alright boys!" The coach screamed. "We need to get at least an hour of training in. Say your goodbyes to Briana and be out on my field in 3 minutes."

Some of the boys passed by me and said their congratulations and then kept on going out of the gym. Lucas, Liam and Ian made their goodbyes.

"I haven't told you this yet," Liz said as she came up behind me and threw her arms around my neck. "But I'm actually proud to call you my sister."

"Gee thanks," I said sarcastically. She laughed, kissed my cheek and ran back out of the gym to the field.

I walked slowly to the gym door, but before I could open it, someone opened it for me. Kaleb.

"Well congratulations," he said smiling.

I nodded. "Even though you knew."

He came in the gym with me and shut the door which made us the only other two people in the gym. I backed up away from him.

"Why do you have to be this way?" He asked.

"Cause you're going to try to make me admit to something that I don't want to admit to."

"What? That you like me? You don't have to admit it. I already know."

"No. You think that you know. I don't like you. I don't have any kinds of feelings about you."

"Keep telling yourself that Briana."

"I will. Cause it's true. You can stay in your little fantasy world about me liking you when in reality I don't. You irk me and you annoy me-"

"And I make you laugh with my sarcasm, and I make you blush and I'm a hopeless romantic." I stared at him. "I could go on and on." I looked down and ran a hand through my hair. "Face it. You like me."
