Chapter 21: Perfect Blows
The next day we all had to wake up early for a tour that we'd all be taking of this gigantic hotel. I had never woken up so early & for some reason I wanted to shoot any and everybody if they even looked my way. I stood in the shower trying to wipe the sleepy away from me, but it just didn't work. I was so comfortable that it hurt. I wanted to go to sleep right in the shower.
I heard the door open and then closed. I poked my head out and saw Ian in his boxers alone. I put my head back in the shower. "Just me," he said wiping his face with his hands. "Mind if I get in the shower with you?" He joked.
"You can step in when I step out." I said.
"I'm gonna end up seeing your lady parts," he said.
I stuck my head out. "Just hand me a towel and I'll keep the shower running." He walked over to the cabinet, pulled out a towel and then handed it to me. Then he proceeded to turn around as I wrapped the towel around my body. I guess it was okay if Ian and I saw one another in our undergarments, but when it was like going beyond completely naked, we both sort of freaked out.
I stepped out of the shower just as Ian turned back around. He walked over to me and smiled. "You look lovely dawling," he said. He put his hands on the side of my face. I scrunched my face up and he smiled even brighter. "The guy that gets you will be the luckiest guy in the world." He kissed my forehead and then pulled me into a hug.
I relaxed into his warm embrace as I got my bath water all over him. "Any girl would be lucky to have you," I mumbled into his neck. "I mean, they couldn't love you more than I could, but they could try." I felt his body tense up and I knew that he was smiling. I slightly pulled apart from him and looked into his eyes. "I'm like serious."
The smile lingered on his face and I couldn't help, but trace it with my finger. "Gah, remember you used to always do that when we were little and I used to bite your finger?" He said.
"Yes. I have a permanent bruise on my right thumb."
"Really?" He raised my right hand and looked at my thumb. "Oh there it is." He looked up at me and then back at my hand. "Sorry." And when he kissed it, I felt a warmth go through my body. Oh no. I can't be feeling like this.
"You have to shower," I said pulling myself away from him abruptly. A confused look lingered over his face. I turned around. "Now hurry and get inside." I heard him shuffle around and then I heard the shower curtain open and then close. I turned back around briefly and started to get myself ready for the day.
After I was done getting ready, I slid out of the room and then walked next door and knocked on Kaleb's room door. About ten seconds later, Liam answered the door. "Little sister," he said pulling me into the circle of his arm and shutting the door. "Feels as though I just saw you yesterday."
"It's 'cause you did," I mumbled as he pulled me away from his torso, but kept his arm over my shoulders. Lucas came from the bedroom part and then smiled at me.
"How was your dinner last night Ms. Web-Lee?" He asked as he leaned casually against the wall.
"It was okay," I answered crossing my arms. "The people are extremely nice."
"Good," Lucas said. "Didn't want to have to bust some people up." I smiled.
"Where's Kaleb and Eric?" I asked.
"Eric is still sleep," Liam said. "And Kaleb should be getting out of the shower now." Liam looked at his watch. "He should hurry. We're supposed to all be meeting in the Lobby at 10:30 to get breakfast. It's 10:15."
"You guys go ahead." I said.
Liam and Lucas share a look before looking back at me. "So what are you going to do?" Lucas asked me.
"Going to see if I can wake Eric up duh," I said sighing. "Do you guys not trust me?" They both share a look. "Don't answer that."
They both laugh and make their way for the door, but not before Liam kissed my cheek. "See if you can get him to take the tour with us," Liam said as the door shut behind them.
I smiled as they left. Of course Eric wasn't going to wake up. I turned and made two swift strides toward the bathroom door. I knocked on it twice. After the second one, I heard a muffle voice moan, "Come in." I opened the door and saw Kaleb's glistening body hung over the sink. He had a towel around his waist and a toothbrush in his mouth. He smiled at me through the mirror. "It's you."
"You seem surprised," I said as I made my way over to him. "I thought you'd knew that I would come."
"No one knows what to expect from you," he said. I jumped on the counter at the same time that he rinsed his mouth out with hot water. He turned the water off, grabbed a towel from the cabinet and wiped his face. "What are you doing over here?"
I frowned as he looked at me. "I can't come see you?"
"I didn't say that was a problem. What did Liam and Lucas say about you coming in the bathroom with me?"
"They don't know," I said. "I told them that I was going to try to wake Eric up."
Kaleb sat his face towel on the sink and smiled. "We've got a little liar here?" He asked as he walked right between my legs.
"Well one in the making," I mumbled. He smiled at me and then placed his hands down on either side of the counter.
He nuzzled his face into my neck and laid his head down on my shoulder. "So I take it that you didn't tell Ian about us?"
"I couldn't," I mumbled into his wet hair. "I wanted to so bad, but I lied before I even knew what I was doing." He looked up at me. "I'm glad that I did. I don't know how he would have ended up taking the news anyway."
"Maybe it was for the best," he said as he ran his hand up and down my arm. "I mean, if you would have told him it would have made things awkward."
"Just like the first time," I mumbled.
"Yeah," Kaleb said looking into my eyes. "Like the first time." I smiled at him and he smiled at me. He made the first move as he pushed his body into mine and kissed me deeply. My body stiffened. I saw it coming, I just wasn't sure how to act on it. I placed my arms around his neck and I felt our bodies mending together; it was like we were two parts of one another. I couldn't help but smiled and removed my lips from his and laid my head on his shoulder. "What's the matter?" He mumbled into my hair.
"It's different," I said rubbing my hand up and down his neck. "I don't know if I'm kissing you right."
I heard him chuckle under his breath. "You were kissing me just fine. Did you wanna stop?"
"We're supposed to be downstairs at 10:30."
"I'm pretty sure that we aren't going to make it," he mumbled into my neck.
I smiled and pushed him away before I went any further with this. "C'mon." I jumped off the counter and then looked at him. "You don't have much time."
I saw a hurt look across his face, but it was placed with an amused one. "You're a tease," he said. I rolled my eyes. "But just for you, I'll go as fast as I can to get dressed even though we're not going to be on time."
We made it downstairs at almost 11. Everyone was already there and once we approached, I felt anger searing all through them. "What took you so long?" Ariel asked me. She pulled my arm and pushed me to the front of them all. Standing in front of us was a bellhop.
"Ms. McArthur?" He said.
"Yeah that's me," I said.
"Good. We couldn't start this tour without you."
"Sorry. I got er held up a bit."
"It's fine," he said reassuring me with a smile. "We'll be taking the tour first around the main area and then we'll go up to the other floors. Is that okay with you?"
I nodded. "That's fine." Then something clicked into my mind. "Wait," I said. The bellhop and just about everyone else looked at me as I searched through my bag for my phone.
"Looking for this?" I turned and saw Ian as he handed me my phone.
"Yeah," I said. "I have to call Dell."
"No reason." I looked up again and noticed that Dell was standing there. "Ian called me this morning."
"Oh." I raised an eyebrow and turned back towards the bellhop. "Well I guess that we're ready set then."
He smiled at me. "Good."
Once the tour started, Ian explained to everyone who Dell was and they greeted her like she was part of the family. I saw her eye on Kaleb about a few times during the first twenty minutes and I felt my heart level rise. Liz and Lucas stayed at the front of the pack with Kurt and Ariel and they acted as though they were so intent on the conversation that the bellhop was giving.
Towards the middle of the tour, I happened to look to the back and noticed that Kaleb and Dell were walking side by side one another. He had his hands placed in his pockets and she was just looking her merry self. She said something and it made him laugh and... blush? Kaleb was blushing at her!
Just when I was about to go and break the two apart, I felt an arm encase over my shoulders. I looked up and saw Ian staring straight forward. "Relax," he said. I bit my lip and continued to stare at them. "I know that you and Kaleb renewed your friendship and you might be a little bit jealous that he's talking to Dell, but you can't stop that." He looked at me. Does Ian know about Kaleb and I? "Even though you and Kaleb have a great bond as friends doesn't mean you can tell him to not date Dell because she's your friend." Wooh. I thought that he knew.
"Imagine if that was you," I snorted as I faced forward. "I'd die." I heard him chuckle and kiss my cheek.
"Never in a million years would I hurt you by dating your friend," he whispered through my hair. I smiled as the tour continued on.
The bellhop or whoever he was, knew just exactly what to show us and explained everything so deeply. I was more intent on him then I was on whatever Kaleb and Dell were discussing. He concluded the tour by taking us to the dining hall since it was past lunch hour.
"And I hope that you all had an amazing tour," he told me with a smile on his face. "And the dining hall is through these doors." He bowed as he disappeared behind us.
Kurt pushed the door for the dining hall open. It was a pretty magnificent dining hall. We all walked in and sat at different tables. Kurt and Ariel sat together at their two person seat, Liam, Lucas, Kaleb and Ian sat at a booth oddly, and I sat with Liz, Alexander and Dell.
"Gah," Alexander said looking through his menu. "I'm starving like there's no tomorrow."
"So am I," Liz said. She looked through her menu and we all did the same. After about a minute, she looked up at Dell. "I saw you back there talking to Kaleb the whole time during the tour." I felt my fingers squeeze the menu. "You both looked chummy."
Dell smiled as she turned a page in her menu. "I guess." She looked up. "He's a really nice person."
"Nice. Pfft. My brother is all but nice," Alexander chimed in.
"That's your brother?" Dell all but gasped. "You guys are so... different."
"More than you can imagine," Alexander said looking down at his menu.
Liz looked over at Alexander's face as did I before she continued on with their conversation. "Seems like you knew him before or something. Have you both met before?"
"Oh, last night when I found Briana, they were talking and she introduced him to me," Dell said nudging me. Liz and Alexander looked up at me, but I just buried my head deeper into my menu.
I felt Alexander kick me under the table. I looked up just about to say something when my phone started ringing. I looked at the Caller ID and spotted my mom's name. I looked at Liz. "It's mom." She nodded. I picked up the phone, pressed talk and proceeded to walk away. "Hello?"
"Hi sweetheart. How is everything down there?"
"Hi mom. Everything's good. Kurt and Ariel are taking care of us just as you and dad would." I heard her chuckle. "How's everything down there? How's aunt Rebecca and Kherington?" I heard her sigh. "That bad?"
"She refuses to take her medicine. We went to the doctor yesterday and the doctor told her that her life expectancy has gone down from three months to a couple of weeks." She took a deep breath. "Things aren't as great. But I don't want this to ruin you, ok."
"I promise it won't. Tell her that Liz, Liam and I said we love her and stay strong."
"I will sweetheart. Make sure to call me tomorrow before the awards. We'll be watching it via the Internet," she said.
"Mom, no. No one says 'via the Internet' anymore."
"Oh hush sweetheart." I smiled. "Tell your brother and sister that I love them."
"I love you honey, and I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks mom. I love you more."
"I'll talk to you tomorrow," she said.
"I'll be waiting by the phone."
As I hung up the phone, I knew that I couldn't eat. My stomach was in knots and my head was spinning. I looked at everyone and noticed that they were all eating dinner. As the tears approached my eyes, I back up slightly and then made a beeline for the door. Once I was outside, I walked silently with my head down so that no one could see my tears.
Just as I turned the corner to go towards the elevator, I ran straight into someone. "Watch where the hell you're going!" The person screamed.
I looked up at the person. I had never seen him before. "I'm so sorry," I muffled out. "Please excuse me."
His face softened as I tried walking past him. He stopped me and grabbed my arm and turned me around. Once I was face to face with him, he smiled at me. "Now what's a pretty girl like you doing crying?"
I smiled, but I'm pretty sure that it came out like a crinkle on my mouth. "I have a lot of things to cry about right now and I feel less and less pretty each time a tear slides down my face."
The boy's smile darkened. He placed his hand in mine and led me to the same couches that Kaleb and I were sitting at last night. He sat me down and looked at me. "You look eerily familiar."
"I'm Briana McArthur. I'm in for the personal award at the Web-Lee's," I said.
"That's why," he said. He leaned down and grabbed me a tissue from the tissue box that was on the table placed in front of us. He handed it to me and said, "I'm Eric Lutaker. Me and my cousin Lous Winslow have a web show called-"
"Perfect Blows?" I asked as I wiped my face.
He nodded. "Yeah, you know about us?"
"Your fellow opponents had a lot to say about you last night."
"They told you about the table flipping didn't they?" I nodded. He looked at me. "So what do you think?"
"Personally, they were all petrified of you. I don't go off past judgements. Everyone has a story."
Eric smiled at me. "I see why my sister watches your web show endlessly. You do have great advice."
"Yeah," I huffed out. "Not for myself at the least."
"So what is it that has you all in a rut?" I looked at him. "I can help you."
"You barely know me. Why would you want to help me?"
"Because, you remind me too much of my sister and I would hate it if my sister was crying as you were."
I bit my lip. "So where should I start?" He smiled at me and I huffed and leaned back. "My mom and dad couldn't be here with me because of my aunt Rebecca. She has cancer, and last month she had 2 strokes. She won't take her medicine and the doctors are saying that her life expectancy is going downhill." I felt a tear slide down my face. "How is that even possible? Why won't she take her medications?"
"Maybe," he said placing his hand over mine. "Because she knows that it's her time to go." I looked over at him. "She knows that she has had a good life, and maybe she knows that God is calling her home. You can't stop that."
"But I mean... she's so young; barely in her forties."
"When it's your time to go, then it's your time to go. She knows that."
"You act as if you've spoken about this a million times," I said sitting up.
He smiled. "Louis' mom died. She was my aunt. She also had cancer and didn't want to take her medicine. We asked her why one time and she told us that God was calling His angel home. The next day, she was gone. She knew that it was her time. She didn't regret that. She just was happy to go home."
"He's happy that his mom is in a better place. That was four years ago; we started our web show because of that."
"Has your web show helped you get over a lot of things?"
I smiled. "Too much."
