For civilizations of the 20th century, war is not a new concept. Many film producers have made intricate movies about wars and combat. The following is a list of military movies, which are a must-see for all military enthusiasts. There are several different parameter's on the basis of which the military movie can be rated, the following are however, the movies that are realistic, patriotic and thrilling.

Military movies contain some really good action, and also a patriotic thrill. Men of these movies are sometimes based on real incidences that have occurred in the course of history. Some movies are such that the principal plot is fictitious, but the time-frame and historic event within which it is placed are true.

Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan, a legendary movie by a living legend, Steven Spielberg. It is a film that follows a team of Allied soldiers across Germany occupied France during the World War 2, who are in search of Private Ryan, a paratrooper who has lost 3 brothers in the war. The film stars Tom Hanks as the Captain of the team who successfully keeps together a team of 6 rangers, and is asked to search for Private Ryan, which is as good as finding a needle in a haystack. The film is known for its music, depiction of combat tactics and a highly realistic opening scene of the D Day. This movie is always among the best military movies ever.

Let us take a walk through the pages of history as Russell Crowe, adapts the character of General Maximus Decimus Meridius, of the Roman army. The movie depicts real history as Commodus, murders his father to claim the throne, and plans to have the loyal General Maximus assassinated. The tables turn as Maximus escapes and becomes a Gladiator in Northern Africa (then a Roman province). But Maximus has to return to Rome for one last fight, and thereby claim his real identity. The film depicts some amazing sword fighting sequences and also its thrilling music.

A movie by snipers, for snipers. Mark Wahlberg, stars as Bob Lee Swagger, a retired US marine sniper with formidable sniping skill, and a tone of kills on his record. Swagger is requested out of retirement by a US army Colonel for an assignment that involves detecting a presidential assassination. The whole mission turns out to be a hoax as the president is shot at (but survives) and Swagger is framed up as the assassin. The hoax turns up to be an even bigger cover up of a genocide, as Swagger swears to hunt and kill his betrayers.

Top Gun
Always a highly rated film in any top ten military movie list, Top Gun is an air force based movie that follows Tom Cruise as 'Maverick' (code name), to Fighter Town, Navy Fighter Weapons school, also known as 'Top Gun'. The weapons school trains the best US fighter pilots for highly demanding calls of duty. The experts of this school train the entire Squadron to be the best of the best. During the course of the movie Maverick, falls in love with one of his instructors (Kelly McGillis) and losses his RIO 'Goose' during a mock dogfight. After regaining his confidence, he displays some insane flying to ward off air space aggressors. The movie closes with Maverick back as an instructor at 'Top Gun'.

Along with these movies 'Where Eagles Dare', 'Iron Cross', 'The Bridge On The River Kwai', 'Platoon', 'An Eye Of The Needle', 'Pearl Harbor' and 'Guns of Navarone' can easily make the top ten list of best war movies in a movie review. Believe it or not, but you won't be satisfied with just a single screening.
