Broken Heart: Echo of a Memory

Memories can be painful.
Is there anything you'd like to say,
Before you turn your back and walk away?
Do you have a reason you'd like to state,
For leaving me with a broken heart?

Can you leave an antidote for the pain?
Is there no forgiving my mistakes?
You never tried to apply the breaks,
As hurtling scorn smashed this broken heart.

The seasons change, the sun has gone,
As cold rain drowns the muddy lawn,
And hides the golden rays of dawn,
In the shadow of a broken heart.

The echo of a memory, clinging to a dream,
Is lost inside the eiderdown you used to share with me.

So it's come to pass, we're passing strangers,
I never saw the signs, the danger,
The little warnings now tend to linger,
In the wreckage of a broken heart.

Mangled emotions bring fear and confusion,
Deep sorrow shatters, love's strange illusion,
And I know now you were just an intrusion,
A stealth attack that broke my heart.

The bed is now too big without you,
It's vast expanse leaves me mentally abused,
As I drown in an ocean of memories of you,
Resounding through my broken heart.

The echo of a memory, clinging to a dream,
Is lost inside the eiderdown you used to share with me!
