Little Hope

The desperation of rejection.
The cold kiss of spring morning,
Had a slightly salty taste,
As the breeze blew from the ocean,
Chilling the tears on my face,
The tears that flowed since last night,
The tears that couldn't stop,
Oh girl, what you have dealt to me,
Has left me little hope!

Last night you muttered something
From the corner of your mouth,
I don't quite recollect it,
But I know it put me down,
I was scathed by the criticism,
Of the sordid words you spoke,
Oh girl, what you have dealt to me,
Has left me little hope!

The art of conversation,
Can be scalding to a heart,
A word said out of context,
Can leave an ugly scar,
You wounded me with scorn last night,
My dreams went up in smoke,
Oh girl, what you have dealt to me,
Has left me little hope!

I can't get over how you changed,
As quickly as you did,
Yesterday you loved me,
Last night you called it quits.
You left me lost and lonely, girl,
Wondering how to cope,
Oh girl, what you have dealt to me,
Has left me little hope!

I guess that I'll just trundle on,
'Till I reach my terminus,
All good things come to an end,
One day I'll forget about us,
Unless, that is, the memory,
Sends me reaching for the rope,
Oh girl, what you have dealt to me,
Has left me little hope!
