Constipation is a condition, where the person finds it difficult to pass their stools, at the same time, the bowel movements are also infrequent, i.e. less than three times a week. There are different causes of constipation. Constipation in infants and children is often seen, when the infant starts with formula food or processed food, during toilet training or after starting school. In most cases, infants pass about 4 to 5 soft liquid stools after birth. It is also more commonly seen, that breast fed infants often tend to have more bowel movements, in comparison with formula fed infants. Natural Laxatives for Toddlers

Water will help to hydrate the body and cause softening of the tools. You may want to give the infant some warm water, as this will help to relieve constipation faster. Feeding infants strained fruits like apricots, peaches, plums, pears, apricots, prunes, etc. will help the infant with constipation. Along with fruits, you can also feed your infant with vegetables, as they are also rich in fiber and help in curing constipation. You may also feed the baby strained spinach soup. To make homemade laxatives for children and infants from flaxseed, you can also grind the seeds and give it to the infant. Infants can be given about 1 teaspoon of flaxseed a day, while the toddlers can be given about 2 teaspoon and children can be given 1 to 2 tablespoons a day. Like flaxseed, psyllium husk, which is made from psyllium bran can also be given to the infant. The husk is rich in fiber and helps to soften stools. This is one of the natural laxatives as a cure for relieving constipation.

Along with these laxatives, you can try giving your infant a massage in the clockwise around the tummy. This will also help in stimulating motions, but make sure you do not use any sort of oil or cream for the same. We have just seen some of the natural laxatives for infants, however, it is recommended, that you may want to consult your child's pediatrician before you give it to the infant. At the same time, if these laxatives do not work, do not waste time and have your infant looked at by the pediatrician, to rule out any complication.
