Promise of a Woman

Poem about a woman, relationship, self-esteem, and self-respect...
Don't despise me for wanting the same thing or doing the same thing you would too. I am your soulmate, your image in the mirror yet different in every possible way and I promise you that -

I will always meet you halfway,
but won't go alone all the way through.

I will walk beside you,
But I will not just follow you.

I will soothe your hurt,
But I will not hurt myself in the process.

I will care for you,
But I will care for myself too.

I will cry for you,
But I will not cry because of you.

I will save you from yourself,
But I will not lose myself in you.

I will never leave you,
But I will not be left.

I will trust you,
But I will not be naive.

I will give myself to you,
But I will not give "me".

I will make you happy,
But I will not lose sight of my own happiness.

I will hold you when you need me,
But I will not let you hold me down.

I will give as much as you do,
But I will not let myself be taken for granted.

I will accept your imperfections,
But I will not be disrespected.

I will endure the pain,
But I will not be abused.

I will love you more,
But I will not be loved any less.

I will let you be a *man*,
But I will never forget I am a *Woman*.
