Sorry for Not Being There

A poem for my father. He passed away when I was 16.
Sorry,
For the tears,
For not being there,
When you were all alone.

I should have been,
By your side,
With you on that dark day,
The last day of your life.

To put my arms around you,
And comfort you,
Holding your hand,
Telling you it will be alright.

Just to be near you,
For one last time,
Just to tell you,
I love you.
