That One Guy - Chapter 15

Hey guys, new chapter! This chapter isn't too long but I'll post another chapter hopefully in a few more days! Please comment and enjoy!
"Sam! We’re home!" Martha’s voice broke into my sleep and woke me.

I quickly got up and checked the time. 6.28 pm. Ben would probably want an answer by now. I sighed and walked out of my room and down the stairs which felt so much longer than usual. Martha and Ben were in the kitchen unloading groceries.

"Hey honey, do you want pizza for dinner tonight?" Martha asks me once I’m down the stairs.

"Uh, sure."

"Okay, I’ll go order it now."

Martha then left the room and walked upstairs leaving me and Ben in the same room. I’m prepared to say yes, I’ll say yes. I opened my mouth to speak but Ben got in first.

"So, I thought about the offer... and decided to decline it." Ben said as he took a bag of greens out of the grocery bag.
I looked at him, shocked. Did he just decline the biggest chance in his career.

"What? Why?"

"Because, I know how it’s like being a teenager and having friends you don’t want to leave behind. I didn’t want you to give up everything here just for me."

"But I would’ve gotten over it, this was you biggest chance in your career."

"Yeah, but... as long as I’m with family, I’m happy and it doesn’t matter what job I have."

"Thanks Ben." I say as I walked to him and hugged him.

The next morning the sound of my phone woke me from a dream-less sleep. I lifted my head and blinked my eyes open a few times and looked around my quiet room sleepily. After a few seconds, I dropped my head back down on my pillow and placed my hand on my bedside table and moving my hand around to feel out my phone. After knocking over just about everything on the table, I found my phone. I unlocked my phone and found a new message from Jed.

"Hey, open your window!"

I looked at his text confused. He’s not here, is he? No way. I quickly rushed to the window and looked down out the window. There stood Jed with his bag ready for school and a giant cheeky grin on his face. I quickly lifted, opened the window forgetting I had bed hair and I was still in my sweats.

"Jed! What are you doing here?" I hissed down to him.

"Not now, funky hair. Move away from the window and let me climb in."

I rolled my eyes and sighed and walked away from the window. After a minute Jed’s head popped through the window and then the rest of his body followed.

"Again... what are you doing here?! Ben and Martha could catch you here!" I hissed at him.

"Wow, I feel so loved... Martha and Ben left 5 minutes ago and I didn’t want to be stuck with them and that football dude as they continuously exchange saliva."

"Oh... are you okay?" I asked as I placed my hand on the side of his right hand shoulder.

"Yeah. I’m fine." He said. He was lying. I mean, I know how much he loved Emmalyn and you couldn’t be fine walking to school to see the girl you love with another guy.

"But, I know something that wasn’t okay?" Jed broke into my thoughts. I looked at him while he put another cheeky grin on his face.

"What?" I asked putting a confused look on my face.

"Your hair." Jed answered subtly, until later he busted into a hysterical laughter at his "funny" joke.

My face dropped and I quickly patted down my hair. "Ugh, you have to wait. I’m gonna take a shower." I say as I walked to my drawers to grab a change of clothes. I took a quick shower as I didn’t want Jed waiting too long.

I quickly dressed and walked out the bathroom to see Jed laying on my bed staring into space. "Uh, are you sure you okay?" I say sitting next to him on the bed. Jed then turns around and looks at me. "Maybe, I should give up." I looked at him confused. "I mean, I’ve been trying to get Emmalyn to like me for almost 5 years now. I should have given up years ago. I mean, she wouldn’t ever like me and even if she did, she would have ages ago."

I looked at him in shock, he loves Emmalyn so much, but I still can’t believe she hasn’t noticed anything these past years. "Jed... don’t give up. You never know, it’s possible that you guys are meant to be."

"Yeah... in my dreams." Jed muttered but loud enough for me to hear.

"Don’t worry, I’ll get over it."

"Good, now come on. Let’s go!"

That morning Mitchell and I were back to square one, I tried to talk to him but he ignored me. But Mitchell wasn’t the only thing on my mind that morning; I didn’t say anything to Jed this morning about Alex. I know I would have to tell him and Emmalyn soon but... how would they take it? I mean in their eyes Alex is a complete jerk but I see him in a completely different way.

Lunch soon came along; I was planning on to tell Jed and Emmalyn then. I walked into the cafeteria and see Emmalyn and Jed already sitting at the table in a deep conversation. I sighed and quickly walk up to the counter and bought a bottle of water. I took the water with me to the table where Emmalyn and Jed were talking.

"Hey guys." I say as I took as seat next to Jed.

"Hey!" Jed and Emmalyn said in unison looking at me.

"I need to tell you guys something." I say as I fiddled with the cap of the water bottle.

"Um, sure." Emmalyn answered both for herself and Jed.

"Um... I’m going... out with Alex." I looked at Jed and the turned to Emmalyn. I had worries that they didn’t like the idea of me going out with Alex. But it was completely different. I didn’t need to have the worries I did well... at least some of them.

"Oh my gosh! That’s great!" Emmalyn said as she hugged me.

"I don’t know Sam. Do you really think this is a really good idea?" Jed said sounding concerned.

"I don’t know either, but... I like him and that’s what matters right?" I say with more thoughts coming back into my head. What if it isn’t a good idea? What if it’s just a plan so Brittney could mess with me?
