The Betting Game - Chapter Three

I hate him for it. I hate Tyler Collins for making me remember what I've worked so hard to bury deep within me. The emotions can kill me, you know.
"Are you freaking kidding me?" Carla hissed when she came to pick me up for school the next morning. "That fast?! Isn't that just strange?"

I sighed. "Of course not, because he just wanted to tease me. I bet he didn't like me getting in his way of bullying his adorable brother."

"I know he wasn't really bullying him but that's just how I saw it." For a moment my voice got caught in my throat. I should stop this.

"You ok?" Carla asked.

"I'm fine..."

I hate him for it. I hate Tyler Collins for making me remember what I've worked so hard to bury deep within me. The emotions can kill me, you know. Last night was a nightmare. I came home, dropped onto my bed and bawled my eyes out for hours. After letting all the anger, sadness and frustration out, I took a shower and brushed my teeth and lips 5 or 6 times. Damn you, Tyler. I was hoping to avoid him today until I've calmed down but that's not really possible when my locker is just a few lockers away from his. Worse, we have P.E today. He plays basketball and so do I. Not that I'm any good at this sport, but I try. Watching the school team play in some tournaments actually makes me want to learn this sport as well.

3 hours later and we were all sitting in the cafeteria at our usual table. I searched the whole room until my eyes fell on a tall figure standing beside Brianna with a wide smile on his face.

"So, what are you going to do now?"

It took me a while to tell that the question was being directed at me. Bryan raised an eyebrow when I just gave him a blank look.

"Does he even know who you are?" He asked.

"Uhhh... not really." I didn't exactly introduce myself to him that night, did I? I didn't even tell the boys what really happened, but for now I'd like to keep it that way.

I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. "You guys just let me do this alone, ok? No questions asked. At least not until there's some progress."

"You don't want our help?"

"No thanks."

James stayed quiet. Carla just shook her head at me. Bryan kept giving me suspicious looks. What now?! Ugh... it's going to be a really annoying day. I let my mind wander for a while, and then when I turned to Tyler's table I saw him looking back at me blankly. I gasped and turned back. 1... 2... 3, I turned again slowly to be greeted with an annoying smirk. I stuck out my tongue at him and turned back to see my friends giving me the Are-you-ok look. Yea, yea I'm fine.

By 6th period I was already tired and just wanted to go home and sleep. It was the dreaded P.E class. Clara and I changed into shorts and the usual P.E cotton shirt before making our way out into the sun. Apparently, we were going to do some warm-ups outside. Well, let me tell you, it wasn't a pleasant experience. I don't know how it happened but we were supposed to be jogging and then out of nowhere I find myself racing with Tyler. He's fast even when he's just jogging. Well, he's got the advantage of long legs. He seemed to notice that and then we kept going on and on until the teacher stopped us.

"What are you guys doing? Warm-ups or racing?"

I don't get how jogging is such a great way of warming-up so I just shrugged while trying to catch my breath. Tyler put his hands on his knees and I could have sworn he snorted and said something that suspiciously sounded like 'shut up old man'. I didn't comment on it though.

"We did both. Can we just sit down now?" Tyler asked.

"Teacher! Teacher!" Carla bumped right into me at that moment. God knows where she came from but the next thing I know is that I'm in Tyler's arms.

"OMG! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to push you... it's just that I really need to go to the bathroom." I gave her a look that she waved off. Before skipping off... yea skipping, she gave me a sly grin and a wink. Oh! I thought I said I didn't need any help.

Later that evening I went onto my laptop and looked for anything interesting to do. For the second time that day I got shocked to see a friend request on Facebook. Not just any damn friend request... Tyler Collins actually sent me a friend request on Facebook.

No way! Why? How did he find me on Facebook? I mean, he doesn't know my name right? Unless...

I accepted. Of course I did. I need to know how he found me, and why. I need to make him notice me even more.

Me: Hey - (I had to start the convo. I was bored anyway. I could try bothering him.)
Ty: Amelia, hey
Me: How'd you find out?
Ty: Ur name? I just asked around. It's not that hard.
(Yea, not that hard for him. Show off.)
Me: Why are you talking to me?
Ty: Ur the one who started this talk.
Me: Ok, why are befriending me on Fb?
Ty: Tbh, annoyin' u is pretty fun. Especially since u seem to think that I'm a bully.
(What? Annoying you is pretty fun? Did he just type that?!)
Me: Ugly bastard... you're so full of yourself aren't you?
Ty: See? This is what I'm talking about, Mia.
Me: You don't get to call me that, Collins!!
Ty: Or else?
Ugh... I signed out quickly and made my way to the kitchen. You just wait for it. I'll kill him for this tomorrow at school. I need food right now.

Wednesday Morning

"Hurry up, Mia! Carla is waiting for you downstairs. I'm going to work, ok?"

"Ok, mum!" I shouted from inside the bathroom. I was going to look different today. I wore my over the knee black and red squared skirt and a white shirt. I put on eyeliner and mascara... thanks to Carla I'm able to do it myself now. I dabbed on some of mum's pink strawberry flavored lip gloss and straightened my hair down.

I took a deep breath and walked to the kitchen. It's been awhile since I've actually dressed up for school. Carla was leaning against the fridge with a cup of coffee in her hand. When her chocolate brown eyes met mine, they widened. She pushed back her blonde silky hair and started to grin.

"OMG babe! You look amazing!" She squealed.

I put on my black and white converse shoes and smiled nervously. "You think?"

"I don't think. I'm sure! Come on, let's eat breakfast together today. Cereal or pancakes?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Pancakes?"

"Your mum made some, but I didn't think we'd be eating so I put them away."

"I'm hungry," I grinned.

So, for the first time in a while I also got to eat breakfast before rushing to school. Carla even put down her car hood, so my hair was practically whipping against my face. I managed to keep her from blasting music on such a quiet morning.

"We should do this more often," she said.

"Uhhh... no."

By the End of the School Day

"You're Amelia Bryans?" Jessie, the head cheerleader sat beside me during the practice game the guys were having. I was shocked to say the least. Bryan and James had club practice and Carla had ditched me to look for some reference books in the library. So, I had to stay after school until Carla got what she needed or just walk home alone. I chose to wait, and in the meantime watch the boys play basketball.

I didn't get to see Tyler much today, especially since he was mostly surrounded by the cheerleaders and the other team members. I never thought basketball could get so much attention. Football is still more important in our school but they were giving basketball some attention as well.

"Yea, that's me."

She smiled. "I'm Jessica. I think you know that. Just call me Jessie though."

"Uhhh... ok," I didn't know what else to say.

"So, are the rumors true?"

That caught my attention. "What rumors?"

Thanks so much for the comments. It really makes me want to try harder. I don't want my story to be a disappointment. This chapter may not be as interesting, but I usually try making it like the calm before the storm so bear with me for a while. Love you guys!
