What Does The Bible Say About Abortion?

Bible clearly says "no" to abortion but in the Bible you can also find the remedy for your wounded heart. The women who have gone through an abortion, know the definition of a wounded heart. But there is real healing!
An article of Newsweek, written on July 19, 1971 quoted one medical opinion: "Abortion is finding its place as a perfectly acceptable and valid health measure. We no longer think of it as a crime."

However, the Bible is straightforward about this, that's why some may find it harsh for nowadays society, but let's see what the Creator has to say about this.

Those that are on the abortion side, say that every woman has the right to control her own body. That is right but it would be great if she could control things so she wouldn't have to put her children to death. Once pregnant, she has practically lost her control over that situation.

Bible clearly shows that only God has the final rights to any person's body. He gave the breath of life to that body and someday, He will take that life away. In the meantime, He is the One who provides the body with power to continue.

The Bible speaks of the fetus as a person, not simply tissue that can be discarded if found to be a bother or unwanted. Since the fetus is a person from the moment of conception, then the destroying of the fetus is equal to killing a person.

In the past, some people believed that perhaps the body might be in the process of formation for some time, and then 'God breathes a soul into it.' Things are different though because the life that is present already, forms matter into a body.

"Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me? Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again? Did you not pour me out like milk ... and knit me together with bones and sinews? You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit" (Job 10:8-12 NIV).

"Before I was born the LORD called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name...and now the LORD says--he who formed me in the womb to be his servant..." (Isaiah 49:1,5).

"The word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

Looking up to some biblical passages, we note that personality is ascribed to an unborn being:

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" (Psalm 139:13-16).

The Gospel of Luke ascribes personality to the fetus within Elizabeth:
"When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit... As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy" (1:41, 44).
Just a tissue does not leap for joy; only a person does.
God says that a fetus is a person. Some people, probably thinking they are smarter than God saying that a fetus is not a person. Whom do you believe? Since the Bible regards the fetus as personality, then the aborting of the fetus is murdering personality.

Some verses from Scripture dealing with murder are then appropriate for study, such as Genesis 9:6: "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man." Also, read Exodus 23:7: "Have nothing to do with a false charge, and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty." Also, note one the 6th commandment: "Thou shall not kill..."

Bible is clear. God, who is the Creator of that fetus does not allow anybody to take his life. It is such a pity to kill your baby when he is let's say 2 years old, isn't it? Is there any difference between killing a kid when he is 2 or 5 yrs old? That person would still be called a murderer. The fact that we don't see the face of that baby nor probably know his name, doesn't give us the right to take his life away.

I don't want to end this article in a negative note, I must say all the truth and that is the following: maybe you have been trough an abortion (or several) and you didn't know these things and you realize now that it was not what God wanted you to do. All women who have gone trough this know the pain that follows this act, it is not easy to heal such a hurt soul.

However, there is hope, real hope! God forgives and wants to restore your soul if you sincerely say "I am sorry". He forgave and restored lives and He will surely put balm on the deep wounds of your heart too! Just ask Him!

If you are a woman who is on the point of making a decision about this, I want to strongly encourage you to keep your baby even if you don't really see how you're going to feed him or even if you live in a conservative society and think that so many will point their fingers at you.

Keep your baby, God will find a way! It is not smart to fix a mistake with an even greater mistake. God will find a way, just ask Him!
